I Say She’s Too Dramatic

So, I’m pretty much pumped about any dance music coming out of Canada right now. Deadmau5, Crystal Castles, always MSTRKFT (beginning with DFA1979 of course), and Chromeo is certainly no exception. Not only is Business Casuala completely excellent album, but one of its tracks showed up on my favorite game franchise in the FIFA 11 release. Hot.

For this Friday’s release, we are offering a remix of the first single off of the album: Night By Night. The JCVD remix takes several steps away from the funk that Chromeo offered the first time through, but we’re sufficiently pleased with the outcome.

Happy Friday, y’all! I know it’s almost over, but we just wanted to post something fun before the weekend is too far underway. Ever since I first heard Crystal Castles’ track Baptism off of “II,” I wanted to put this mashup together. I finally found the time this afternoon to work it out, and after a small battle with the distinctly different emotions of the two tracks I think I managed to force them to make nice. I have tempted fate by opening up the download link on Soundcloud, so feel free to snag this if you would like it. I certainly hope you will.

Though we’ve been heavy on the DJ mixes these past few weeks, our remix work hasn’t let up. Our next entry into the JCVD canon is a re-work of a track by Toro Y Moi, Still Sound , off of his latest album Underneath The Pine.

Remembering Maps

Sometimes a song grabs you and won’t let go. When I heard Taylor Franks’ “Like Me”, it kept going off in my head all day long, with its beautiful hazy guitars and chanted vocals. Taylor, who records now as Jazz Massand was part of the dearly missed Nashville band Maps, was gracious enough to let us take a shot at it. We’re quite excited about how it has turned out, so check it out below.

Supernova: The JCVD Mixes

So, we’ve been hard at work the last couple weeks putting together an EP of remixes for Loyale’s track Supernova. His album “The Heater” was released back in August of this year, and we asked him if it would be cool to put our spin on the track. What came out were three very different ideas, and so we thought we’d share them all.

We won’t go too much into the differences between the three tracks, but suffice it to say they definitely all require a listen. We’re currently working on seeing if Loyale is down with letting y’all download the tracks. In the mean time, check them out and check out his album The Heater for more from him and the original version of “Supernova”.
**UPDATE: Loyale gave us the go-ahead, and the download link has been enabled. The downloads are 192kbps mp3s. Get on it! Also, I forgot to mention, the video for Supernova is badass. You should check that out here.
